Overview

PEXFit is a five-layer PE-X / aluminium / PE-X pipe with a compression fitting system, positioned as an alternative to copper line sets on mini-split and light-commercial air conditioning. It covers 9,000–36,000 Btu systems and light-commercial work up to 5 ton, in 12, 16, 20 and 25 PEX sizes. The pipe is supplied in coils and jointed with hand tools rather than brazed.

The construction is an inner PE-X layer, adhesive, a laser-welded aluminium layer, adhesive and an outer PE-X layer. The aluminium core gives the pipe its bend-and-hold behaviour, and the multi-layer build is what limits the corrosion and condensation problems that show up on a copper run. Fittings cover compression, union, straight, elbow and solder connections, so the system terminates onto both screw-valve and copper-tube-outlet equipment.

Selection & installation notes

Match the pipe size to the system, then the fitting to the pipe: 12, 16, 20 and 25 PEX are listed, and the equipment connection decides whether a compression or solder end is needed.

The installation sequence is cut square, ream and bevel the ends, fit the nut and compression ring, install the fitting on the valves, push the insert to the shoulder without damaging the O-ring, tighten the nut and fit the insulation sleeve.

Keep the pipe on the reel until it is cut and avoid kinking it at the coil end — the aluminium layer is laser-welded and a hard kink is not recoverable.

Common questions

Can PEXFit be used on any mini-split?

It is specified for 9,000–36,000 Btu systems and light-commercial air conditioning up to 5 ton. Check the equipment connection type and the pipe size the equipment requires before quoting.

Does it need special tools?

The listed tools are a metal pipe cutter and metal or plastic reamers for 12–25 PEX, plus a wrench. There is no press tool and no brazing.

How many joints does a run have?

Fewer than an equivalent copper run, because the pipe comes in coils and bends by hand. The exact count follows your layout, not the system.

Is it accepted for refrigerant use where I work?

That has to be checked against the requirements your province or state applies. Ask us for the documentation package for the pipe and fittings you plan to use.
