What decides the design
- Pressure relationships between rooms drive the layout: procedure, isolation and clean rooms need defined differentials, and the air balance has to be verifiable after commissioning.
- Filtration and air-change requirements come from the programme and from provincial requirements, so the specified MERV and static pressure have to be met by the unit rather than corrected in the field.
- Ductwork inside the envelope is a hygiene and maintenance item: material, fire performance and access for inspection are reviewed as part of the infection-control plan.
- Occupancy is continuous, so equipment has to be reachable and serviceable without shutting a department, and unit-level redundancy has to be laid out rather than assumed.

Motorized Dampers — MUD Series

Exhaust and make-up air balancing dampers, 4" to 10", with flow-control adjustment and spring return to closed on power loss.
Round motorized dampers for balancing fresh air against exhaust, with a silent 24 VAC hysteresis motor and spring return to closed.
Selection points
- 01
State the required filtration class and external static pressure at selection: higher MERV filtration and higher static pressure are rooftop factory options, and both change the fan and cabinet selection.

Separate the ventilation requirement from the space load. Where outdoor air is delivered as DOAS or make-up air, confirm the make-up air customisation at order and select the unit on that duty.

Where heat recovery is required to temper outdoor air, specify it with the unit; energy recovery and hot gas reheat are rooftop factory options, and reheat allows humidity control independent of temperature.

Select the duct material against the maintenance and infection-control plan: the pre-insulated PIR panel comes in 20, 25 and 30 mm with a B1 fire rating, a −50°C to 80°C working range and 0.021 W/m·K thermal conductivity.

Make the balance inspectable: motorized dampers return to closed when de-energised and carry an adjustment screw plus a visible open/closed rod, so the commissioned position can be checked later.
- 06
Name the building protocol at quotation: BACnet and Modbus options are available on the rooftop range. Where a central plant is used instead, VRF systems and modular air-to-water units are selected against the zone load.
